Passion Sunday

This first day of Holy Week is often referred to as Passion Sunday. When the church uses the word “passion,” it is tied to the ancient original Latin (passio) and Greek (pascha) which speak of suffering, much like our contemporary word compassion (“suffering with someone”). So today, we focus on the Suffering Servant of God, our Savior. It all begins with Jesus’ journey into Jerusalem, and there on a donkey, in the most unlikely of places, we see the King who came to suffer for us.
