The Day Of Pentecost

“I will POUR OUT my SPIRIT on all people.”  Joel 2:28

Pentecost is the third great festival of the church and has been commemorated since at least 217 A.D.  “Pentecost” comes from the Greek word for “fifty” and was celebrated as a harvest festival in the Old Testament.  During that festival, fifty days after Easter, God sent the promised Counselor which marked the birthday of the New Testament Church.  Today the Church dresses in red to remind us of the tongues of fire that marked the Spirit’s gift and the blood of the martyrs which was the see d of the Church.

Today we celebrate that our broken communication with God is now repaired with God’s love through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
