The Fourth Commandment

Honor Your Father And Mother

Sixth Sunday after Pentecost

The Ten Commandments are a summary of God’s law or his will for us in our lives. Many people think of the commandments as out-of-date rules that take away our freedom to do the things we want and should have the right to do. But the more we study the commandments, the more clearly we see that they are given to us to bless us. They remain important. We have every reason to want to learn what they mean, and we have every reason to obey them – we are God’s people after all.

The Fourth Commandment:

Honor your father and mother that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love God that we do not dishonor or anger our parents or others in authority, but honor, serve, and obey them, and give them love and respect.
